During his maiden series in South Africa in August of last year, Sunil Gavaskar claimed to have “reprimanded” Yashasvi Jaiswal for losing a lead against the West Indies.

As India crushed England 4-1, Yashasvi Jaiswal stood out as their greatest discovery with a series total of nearly 700 runs. Jaiswal became the second-only Indian batsman to score 700 runs or more in a single Test series rummy modern, behind the legendary Sunil Gavaskar. In August, he accomplished an incredible career debut by hitting a century in his very first Test match.

Actually, the former captain of India won the trophy twice, against the West Indies in 1978–79 and during his debut series in 1971. But Gavaskar, a 22-year-old who hasn’t even played in ten Test matches, took an additional 45 years to find teammates.

But after more thought, it was evident that rummy nabob amazing feat would not have been possible if Gavaskar had not stepped in during India’s tour of South Africa.

Gavaskar revealed that he had hit Jaiswal during the Johannesburg Test, becoming the first batter to ever score more than 10,000 runs in a Test match. Gavaskar confided in the hotel room with rummy gold. Gavaskar has consistently underlined how important it is to convert starts. It appears to have paid off because Jaiswal went on to become an unstoppable force in Test cricket.
